About PCF

PRISONER’S CHILDREN FOUNDATION

Prisoner’s Children Foundation is dedicated to addressing the unique challenges faced by children whose parents are in prison. With a growing number of individuals incarcerated in Kenya, many children are left without adequate care, emotional support, or access to basic needs. These children often experience heightened vulnerability to neglect, abuse, emotional trauma, stigmatization, and disruption of their education and future opportunities.

In Kenya, as in many parts of the world, children of incarcerated mothers face significant challenges. While the criminal justice system seeks to administer justice for those convicted of crimes, it often fails to take into account the severe and sometimes irreparable effects of maternal incarceration on young children. For some children in Kenya, this means living within the prison walls alongside their mothers, where they face not only the psychological trauma of separation from the outside world, but also the harsh conditions of prison life.

PCF works to mitigate the effects of parental incarceration by providing direct support to affected children, raising public awareness on their plight, and advocating for policies that ensure their protection and rights.

Key Programs

Our Initiatives

Milk Distribution Program

In partnership with, Prison Christian Ministries (Canada), we are supplying milk monthly to 16 prisons across Kenya for the children of incarcerated mothers in these prisons.

Kitchen Gardens

We have established active kitchen gardens in four prisons which produce vegetables that are used by the children in prison to boost the nutritional value of the meals they take while in prison.

Family Reintegration Programs

We are helping some incarcerated parents maintain contact with their children and facilitating post-release support for both children and parents to rebuild their relationships and reintegrate into society.

Community Awareness Campaigns

We are striving to educate the public on the challenges faced by children of incarcerated parents, aiming to break down stigma and promote a culture of empathy and community support.

Transition Home

In collaboration with Prison Christian Ministries (Canada), we have built a transition home in Murang’a, Kenya, to host the children of incarcerated children who have left the prison.
